The 2016 African Cup was hosted by TRAP RC venue in Pretoria. The event format was 2 days with practice on Saturday morning followed by 2 rounds of qualifying on Saturday afternoon, Sunday would consist of the 3rd and final round of qualifying in the morning followed by triple mains.
Touring Modified qualifying was very tight for the top 3 with Shaun Schutte , Darren Duggan and Willie Noordman all running very similar pace and just a little ahead of the rest of the field, Q1 and Q2 went the way of Shaun Schutte followed closely by Darren Duggan and Willie Noordman sharing 2nd places in Q1 and Q2 , Q3 was still required to decide TQ as the Q3 result would be combined with the fastest result from Q1 and Q2, Shaun Schutte again came through to take Q3 followed closely by Willie Noordman in 2nd and Pedro de Gouveia in 3rd showing good pace and adding his name to the list of potential podium finishers.
The Touring Modified mains were fiercely contested and the tiniest of mistakes from any of the drivers would cost them a good result, The first 2 finals went to Shaun Schutte with fast and consistent driving securing him the overall win, the remaining podium positions were hotly contested by Darren Duggan, Willie Noordman and Pedro de Gouveia after some intense close racing Darren finished 2nd overall ahead of Pedro in 3rd.

13.5 Turn Touring qualifying was intense battle with Shaun Schutte , Jonathan Wilken and Sean Vollmer all in with a shot at TQ, Q1 went the way of Shaun Schutte followed closely by Jonathan Wilken and Sean Vollmer, Q2 went to Jonathan Wilken ahead of Sean Vollmer and Danie Botha, TQ had to be decided by Q3 and Shaun Schutte brought home the win ahead of Jonathan Wilken and Sean Vollmer.
The 13.5 mains were full of bumper of bumper and door handle to door handle racing, the first 2 finals went to Shaun Schutte just edging out Jonathan Wilken and Sean Vollmer. The third final would go to Sean Vollmer securing the final step on the podium.
